Fire Apparatus
The St. George Fire Department took delivery of six new Ferrara Inferno fire engines shortly after Christmas 2007. The trucks, which cost approximately $293,000 each, were purchased from the proceeds of the St. George Capital Improvement Program passed by the voters of the District in November 2006. The updating of our fleet will be completed with the delivery of a new 75" Ladder truck, late in the first quarter of 2008. It will be placed into service as our third ladder company.
This allowed the Department to retire five 1995 Ferrara Freightliner engines and place two 2004 Ferrara Inferno and one 2000 HME/Ferrara engines into its reserve fleet. All of St. George’s front line fire engines are model year 2004 or newer. In addition, the entire fleet is comprised of the same make of vehicle. The maintenance savings resulting from the standardization of spare parts and preventive maintenance schedules along with increased vehicle reliability this represents is significant.
