Community Services

Going back to the Department's origins as a neighborhood volunteer fire department, the St. George Fire Department has always undertaken a number of community service programs that go beyond our charge to provide fire protection and medical assistance for the citizens of our District.  Each of these programs contributes something to the community and helps promote public safety, public health, and/or public service.

We are YOUR fire department, and we are prepared to respond; to help you through unfortunate events in your life.  But, we don't just want to be there when you need us in an emergency.  We want to make a positive contribution to the quality of your daily life.

St. George Fire Protection District

School Visits

St. George realizes the responsibility that comes from serving the public, and in keeping with this responsibility we attempt to be very active in the schools within our district.  At any time during the year we will send an on duty crew to schools to present safety talks, and teach children about fire safety.  To schedule a school visit call Eldon Ledoux at 454-6573 or email.

Public Safety Awareness

St. George will be happy to have a firefighter come by your place of business to evaluate your business fire safety plan or give fire extinguisher training.  This can be scheduled by calling  Darien Williams 454-6575 or email.

Birthday Parties

We will be happy to be a part of your child's birthday party or other celebration.  An on-duty truck and team of firefighters will come to your location and give a brief safety talk and show the children (of all ages) the fire engine.   To schedule a visit call Eldon Ledoux at 454-6573 or email.

Fans for the Elderly

Every year St. George acts as a drop point for fans donated to the East Baton Rouge Parish Council on Aging.  This organization collects fans to be distributed to needy elderly residents of our area.  With temperatures reaching mid 90's in Baton Rouge in summer, these fans can make a huge difference in the health and welfare of our senior citizens.  Fans can be dropped off at any St. George station or pick up will be arranged if you call Eldon Ledoux at 454-6573 or email.

Neighborhood Santa
Parades

In the early days of St. George Fire Department volunteers would tour neighborhoods on fire trucks several weeks before Christmas and throw candy to the children.  This public service is so enjoyed by our residents that it continues to this day.  By mid-November we hope to have neighborhoods mapped out so that residents may know when to anticipate Santa's visit.  We can not pinpoint the time, but can list which subdivisions should expect a visit on any given weekend.

In addition, Santa will collect toys for a local organization known as "Christmas for Challenged Children."  This organization collects toys for local needy children with disabilities.  Once again the "Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank" will also participate by collecting food.  Donations can be made on the day of the "Santa Parade", or by dropping items at any St. George Fire Station.  If anyone is unable to make the drop off please call, and we will make every effort to schedule a pickup from your home.

Fire Safety House

The Fire Safety House is an educational presentation which is available free of charge as a community service.  The house is used to help teach kids what to expect in the event of a fire and the proper method of safely exiting the fire scene.  St. George is happy to offer the Fire Safety House as a community service, but is only able to schedule the house for groups of over 30 children.  The house is primarily intended to be used by elementary aged children.  To schedule the Fire Safety House call Eldon Ledoux at 454-6573 or email.

Station Tours

St. George Fire Department is happy to offer station tours at any time.  Scout troops, school groups, or other organized groups can schedule tours by calling Eldon Ledoux at 454-6573 or email.

Blood Pressure Screening

St. George works with the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging to provide blood pressure screening.
